I'm Toni Veeman, and I will be your instructor for HE 250. I look forward to working with you this term. This is an introduction to our class. You will see the entire course in our D2L online classroom when class begins. I invite you to view the information below, and please email me if you have any questions.
I teach at Portland Community College because I support college education for all individuals. I wanted to educate more communities about health education, and teaching here reaches over 75 students every 10-12 weeks. I want to help you be the healthiest you can be at this point in your life and have the knowledge to move forward positively as you grow in education and health.
My goal is to support and engage you in your health journey. As your instructor, I will help you succeed in this course if you are willing to work with me and have conversations as much as we need to. If life gets challenging or the information in this class is confusing, please email me, and we will talk about it. I look forward to chatting with you soon!
In this course, I am committed to creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment that values the diversity of all students. I recognize that our experiences, perspectives, and identities—uniquely shape our understanding of health and well-being.
I strive to promote equity by fostering open dialogue, being mindful of diverse lived experiences, and acknowledging the social determinants of health that impact individuals and communities differently. My goal is to empower each student with knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed health choices and advocate for well-being in their communities.
Together, we can aim to cultivate a classroom environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and respected. If you encounter any barriers to learning or have specific needs that are not being met, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to support your success and well-being throughout this course.
