(NOVEMBER 7, 2025) The Portland airport has fewer flights. Why? Because the U.S. government is shut down (closed).
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controls airplane travel in the U.S. It stopped 10% of flights in 40 large airports. This helps air traffic controllers. They are working without pay. They are very tired.
This is also at other large airports: Atlanta, Denver, Dallas, Orlando, Miami, San Francisco, New York, Houston, and Chicago.
What happens?
Some flights are delayed or canceled.
Airlines try to help customers. Airlines may give refunds (customers get their money back).
Some people think that hundreds or thousands of flights could be canceled. The FAA says wants to keep air travel safe. The government hopes to fix the problem soon.
