(OCTOBER 17, 2025) In Portland, people are protesting outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building. The protesters want to show they disagree with how ICE treats immigrants and with the government’s actions at the border.
Many protesters wear big inflatable costumes, such as frogs, chickens, unicorns, and sharks. They dance, hold signs, and try to make the protest peaceful and funny.
The idea started after one protester in a frog suit was sprayed by police. Later, a man named Jordy made a website called Operation Inflation to support the movement. On the website, people can give $35 to buy an inflatable costume for a protester.
So far, the group has bought about 100 costumes and gives them out for free near the ICE building. People can borrow or keep them. Volunteers also help by giving fans and batteries for the costumes.
Jordy says the costumes help stop violence because they make everyone laugh. They also show that protesters are not dangerous. He hopes the idea will grow and spread to other cities. The group plans to bring more costumes for future marches and for Halloween.
