(SEPTEMBER 19, 2025) TriMet controls the transportation in the Portland area. This includes buses and trains. TriMet says it will do work on MAX trains on the east side of the Willamette River in October. The work will take seven days and happen in two parts. During this time, some MAX trains will not run normally.
MAX Blue, Green, and Red trains will not run between Rose Quarter Transit Center and Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center.
Shuttle buses will take passengers between these stations.
MAX Green Line trains will not cross the Steel Bridge.
West of the closed stations, MAX Green Line trains will run on Fifth and Sixth avenues, stopping at stations every 15 minutes.
MAX Orange and Yellow trains will run normally.
MAX Red Line trains will not run between Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center and Portland International Airport.
Shuttle buses will take passengers every 15 minutes.
Travelers to and from the airport should plan 30 extra minutes for their trips.
All other MAX trains will run normally.
Workers will remove scaffolding, install new light poles, and improve safety at the station.
The station will get a new stairway and two shelters for passengers.
Workers will replace old curved rail near Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center and Cascades Station.
They will also clean stations, remove trash, and replace rail ties.
These changes make the Red Line safer and more reliable.
Check trimet.org/alerts or use the TriMet Trip Planner before traveling.
Real-time information will show when trains and shuttle buses arrive.
Extra staff will help passengers at stations.
