(FEBRUARY 27, 2025) Many schools have diversity programs. ("Diversity" means many kinds of things or people.) A diversity program helps everyone to receive fair treatment. They help people from different races, cultures, and languages.
President Donald Trump has a different idea. He tells schools to stop diversity programs. He does not want schools to choose students, give money, or hire teachers based on race. Trump says schools should treat all students the same. It says schools should not help students because of race.
Schools must stop this work in two weeks. They lose government money if they don't stop.
Some schools worry. They don't know what to do. Oregon State University and Portland State University say they already follow the law. Other schools think the new rule is not clear. Two weeks is too short. Schools say it could cause problems.
