(FEBRUARY 13, 2025) Rose-Tu is an Asian elephant. She lives at the Oregon Zoo in Portland. She had a baby at 4:29 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The baby is a female. She weighs about 200 pounds. Her name is Tula-Tu.
Steve Lefave works at the zoo. He works with the elephants. He said everything is going well.
"This was one of the easiest births I have seen," he said. "Rose knew what to do. She helped her baby stand up right away. The baby stood on her own in 15 minutes. She took her first steps soon after. Rose is a great mother. She is gentle and takes care of her baby."
Asian elephants are in danger in the wild. They lose their homes. They have problems with people. They get sick. There are only about 40,000 to 50,000 Asian elephants now. They live in small groups. They live in places like India and Borneo.
