The number of homeless people in Oregon increased last year

(JANUARY 31, 2024) Many people in Portland do not have homes. They are homeless. Portland State University studied the problem. It learned many things.

Some homeless people stay in shelters. The number of people in shelters in Oregon increased 24% in 2024. Last year the state had 10,408 beds in shelters.

Some homeless people live outside. The number of people living outside in Oregon increased 16% in 2024. The number in 2024 was 8,403 people.

The big problem is rent for a house or apartment. It costs a lot of money. Most people in Oregon pay 30% to 50% of their income.
