(JANUARY 24, 2025) TriMet has buses and trains in the Portland area. Now it has new MAX trains. They are the Type 6 trains. They started on January 16, 2025. Two trains began early in the morning.
The Type 6 trains are the newest trains from TriMet. There will be 30 new trains. TriMet tested each train many times. TriMet wants safe trains.
What is new?
Better Screens. The screens show the next station and other information.
Better Lighting and Temperature. Lights make it clearer to get on or off. The trains stay cool in summer and warm in winter.
More Safety. New cameras and sensors help keep the trains safe and working well.
The new trains replace the old trains. The old trains are almost 40 years old. One old train will go to a museum in Oregon.
