Salem high schools now have metal detectors

(NOVEMBER 7, 2024) High schools in Salem have new machines this year. The machines check for weapons. They work like machines at airports. They cost about $1.5 million.

Students come to school. They walk through the machines. The machines find metal objects. If the machine beeps, then a teacher checks the student's things.

Many teachers and students say they feel safer now. Some teachers and students say they don't feel welcome.
