(AUGUST 14, 2024) Electricity might cost more soon. Portland General Electric (PGE) wants to raise the price in 2025. It wants to raise the price 10.9%.
Why? PGE says power costs more. And it must keep its equipment working well. For example, it wants to add batteries.
Sometimes electric bills are high. Some people do not have enough money to pay the bills. So PGE turns off their electricity. For example, PGE turned off electricity to more than 4,000 houses in May.
Then PGE also has fewer customers. So other people need to pay more.
PGE already raised prices 18% last January.
The state will decide later this year.
