(JULY 31, 2024) The Oregon Trail is a famous part of our state's history. It was a long path in the 1800s. People used the path to move to the western part of the country. The people were called pioneers. They wanted to make a new home and have a better life.
The trip was difficult. It took a long time. Pioneers used wagons pulled by horses or cattle. There often was bad weather and sickness. The Oregon Trail also brought many new people to places where Native Americans already lived. The pioneers and the government made many Native Americans leave their homes and lose important things.
A museum in Baker City helps people to learn more about the Oregon Trail. The museum has things to see, watch, and do. It tells the stories of pioneers, explorers, and miners. The museum has parts of the trail and an old mine.
The museum was closed for three years. Now it is open again 10a-5pm every day. The new building has "net zero emissions". That means it makes less pollution. Tickets are $4 to $8. For information, go to the museum's website.
There is another Oregon Trail museum in Oregon City.
