Oregon has the only continuously spouting geyser in the Pacific Northwest
(JULY 10, 2024) According to Cambridge Learner's Dictionary, a geyser is "a hole in the ground from which hot water and steam come out."
The three most famous geysers in the world are:
Old Faithful (Yellowstone National Park, USA): Old Faithful is a famous geyser. It erupts on a regular schedule, about every 90 minutes. It shoots water up to 185 feet in the air.
Strokkur (Haukadalur Valley, Iceland): Strokkur is a well-known geyser in Iceland. It erupts every 6-10 minutes. It shots water up to 130 feet high.
Geysir (Haukadalur Valley, Iceland): The Great Geysir is another famous geyser in Iceland. It doesn't erupt as often as Strokkur, but it can shoot water up to 230 feet high. The word "geyser" comes from this geyser.
But did you know that there is a geyser in Oregon, too?
Oregon's geyser is called Old Perpetual. It is at Hunters Hot Springs near the town of Lakeview in the southeastern part of the state. Old Perpetual is the only continuously spouting geyser in the Pacific Northwest. It erupts every 60 to 90 seconds. The water is 200 degrees, and it reaches heights of up to 60 feet.
