(MAY 9, 2024) Skateboards are a fun way to play and exercise. Now there is a new place to skate. The Hermiston Skatepark opens May 11, 2024.
Hermiston is a small city in northeast Oregon. Its new skatepark is 7,500 square feet. It has fun things for skateboarders. There are bowls, quarter pipes, and ramps.
There are also things like stairs, benches, curbs, and railings that are found on city streets. Those things are usually prohibited. That means skaters cannot play on them.
"These features really gives people a chance to practice and skate on the types of materials they usually can’t,” says Brandon Artz. He's the director of Hermiston Parks and Recreation. "There’s a large skating community here, and we’re excited to be able to finally present this to them."
The city hopes to add more things in the future, like rock climbing.
