Some Oregon leaders want to stop changing our clocks

(FEBRUARY 24, 2024) We change our clocks two times every year. In the spring, we turn our clocks ahead one hour. In the fall, we turn our clocks back one hour.

Many people don't like these changes. It interrupts our lives. It's often confusing.

Some lawmakers want to change that. They want to stop changing our clocks. They want to keep winter time all year.

Oregon tried to do this in the past. But the law required California and Washington to agree. That has not happened yet. So the new idea is that Oregon changes the clocks by itself.

However, not enough lawmakers voted for the change. They say Oregon needs to be the same as Washington and California. So the law did not pass. That means there is no change -- for now. Lawmakers will talk about the idea again soon.
