TriMet announces six-week interruption to MAX trains in Portland
(JANUARY 11, 2024) TriMet is a transportation agency. It handles all of the buses and MAX trains in the Portland area. It is working on a project called "A Better Red". The purpose is to make the MAX Red Line better. One advantage is that the Red Line will now go all the way from the Portland International Airport to Hillsboro.
The project will soon cause disruptions to transportation in Portland. From January 14 to February 25, 2024, the Gateway Transit Center will be closed for six weeks. During this time, buses will replace MAX Blue, Green, and Red lines. They will also make things work better on Interstate 84 and near the transit center.
Here's what you need to know:
MAX Blue and Green lines will have buses instead of trains for a while.
MAX Red Line won't work during this time.
MAX Orange and Yellow lines will run normally.
When things are back to normal on February 26, there will be a new station called Gateway North to make trains work better.
TriMet offers these suggestions to travelers:
Think about other ways to travel during this time.
Use regular buses if you can. You can plan and track your trip on trimet.org.
Plan at least 60 extra minutes for your trips.
Follow TriMet on social media for updates: Instagram, @TriMet on X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook. Also, check @trimetalerts for service info.
The project started in 2021, and now it's almost done. It cost $215 million.
