Robot helps to make downtown Portland safer

A new robot like this helps to keep downtown Portland safe.

(JANUARY 4, 2024) The U.S. Bancorp Tower is the tall pink building in downtown Portland. The building now uses a special robot for security. The robot's name is Rob.

The robot weighs 420 pounds. It is about 5 feet tall. It moves around the parking area. It has cameras to watch. There are speakers to talk. It can even read license plates. If someone shouldn't be there, the robot sends a warning.

People inside the building control the robot. They use it to help keep the area safe. The robot helps them do a better job.

Unico Properties owns the building.  It wants more people to visit downtown. The robot helps visitors and workers feel safer.
