(NOVEMBER 3, 2023) Sky Cave Retreats is located in Southern Oregon. It has become a center for an ancient spiritual practice known as dark retreats. These retreats offer visitors a unique and transformative experience.
The owners of Sky Cave Retreats cite many benefits of dark retreats. These include heightened sensitivity and a deep connection to the subconscious. Retreats typically last 3 to 4 days, with a day of integration before and after the dark retreat. During the retreat, visitors stay in one of three simple mountainside cabins that are completely dark. One is a cob/strawbale cottage, while the other two are “hobbit” cottages built into the hillside and are fully buried. Each has a toilet, sink, and hot bath. Basic needs are tended to, including the delivery of organic meals and access to pure mountain water. The retreat cabins are designed to provide insulation, ensuring a comfortable environment regardless of the season.
According to the website, some visitors "find that they sleep a lot during the first 24 hours while others share that they have a normal night sleep and don't sleep/nap much at all during the day. As the days continue to unfold, [visitors] tend to find that they sleep less and less. Heightened sensitivity and the opening of the subconscious can naturally begin to arise as early as the first day of the retreat and continue to intensify as the retreat progresses." The owners explain that this experience allows visitors to let go of the need to control the external and internal worlds It offers them a profound sense of freedom and self-awareness.
The cost is $265 per night, which includes meals. A shuttle from Medford airport is available for $150.
