A large fire in Southern Oregon causes a lot of damage

(JULY 28, 2023) A big fire in Southern Oregon started last Saturday. It is called the Golden fire. It was a very strong fire. The fire was spreading fast, and the officials couldn't reach the affected areas for three days because it was dangerous. The fire caused a lot of damage. It burned many houses, and it stopped emergency calls to 911 services for a short time.

The fire is in Lake County, which has a population of about 8,000 people. 911 calls there had to be sent to Klamath County in order for people to get help. 43 homes and 43 other buildings were destroyed. Many people had to leave their houses and find shelter elsewhere.

By Tuesday night, the fire burned more than 2,000 acres. More than 400 people were fighting the fire. Only about 9% was contained. That means only a small part of the fire was under control.

The firefighters are working hard to stop the fire from spreading more and to cool down the hot areas. They want to contain the fire so it doesn't hurt more people and homes. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
