Oregon's minimum wage went up July 1

(JULY 7, 2023) The minimum wage in Oregon increased. The change happened on July 1, 2023. Now Oregon workers are paid at least $14.20 per hour.

But not all places have the same minimum wage. In the city of Portland, workers get even more money because the minimum wage there is $15.45 per hour. In rural areas, workers earn a little bit less at $13.20 per hour. This is because the cost of living is different in different parts of the state.

The increase is because prices have gone up. It's important that workers earn enough to afford things they need. The national minimum wage is still $7.25 per hour, so the state law helps workers have the money to live in Oregon.

In 2022, about 5% of Oregon workers earned the minimum wage.
