Petersen Rock Garden hopes to re-open this year with the help of volunteers

(JUNE 2, 2023) Petersen Rock Garden is a special place to visit in central Oregon.

It began in 1935 by a Danish immigrant named Rasmus Petersen. He made stone sculptures around his house. He continued to add more and more.

There are castles with moats. There are models of famous buildings. There is even a Statue of Liberty. Everything is connected by a gravel path and concrete bridges.

In 2013, the place was added to the National Register of Historic Places. That means people wanted to protect it. However, it closed for a while. Then it was sold to its new owners in 2022.

Now the rock garden needs volunteers to keep it clean and ready for visitors. The rock garden hopes to be open again this year. For more information about volunteering, call 541-904-0557.
