Fashion brings Vietnam and Italy to Oregon

(MAY 12, 2023)  Thu Fashion is a store on busy Sandy Boulevard in Portland. The store sells stylish clothes and does alterations. Thu Duong is the owner of the shop. She was born in Vietnam and fled to a refugee camp with her husband after her father was sent to prison. They moved to Italy, and Thu studied fashion design there before moving to Portland in the United States. Thu designs and sews her own clothes. She also helps customers with alterations (changes) to their clothes. She loves fashion and making people feel good about themselves.

Thu says she is half Vietnamese and half Italian. When she first came to the U.S., Thu worked in a factory. But she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. The factory didn't hire her as a designer, so she opened her own shop in Portland. Now she has many loyal customers. Thu takes selfies in her clothes and posts them on Instagram. She also has a YouTube channel. She loves designing clothes that are timeless and can be worn by people of any age. Thu is very happy when her customers are happy. She says they are like friends to her.
