Driver on I-5 near Eugene throws cash out car window to help other people

(APRIL 23, 2023) A strange thing happened on Interstate 5. It happened near Eugene last week. A man named Colin Davis McCarthy threw $100 bills out of his car window.

The police found McCarthy. They told him to stop. They said it could be dangerous for other drivers. He agreed to stop. However, he already threw about $200,000 out the window.

People driving on the busy highway saw the money. They stopped their cars to get it. They caused traffic to slow down.

The police looked for the rest of the money. They didn't want anyone to get hurt. However, the police couldn't find any more money.

McCarthy said he had lots of money. He wanted to share it with others. The police think he used his own money. His family says he emptied their bank accounts.

The police haven't said there was a crime yet. But they want people to know that looking for money on the highway is not safe.
