MSC Katie is the biggest cargo ship to visit Portland

(APRIL 7, 2023) The biggest ship ever to come to Port of Portland's Terminal 6 arrived this week. It is called the MSC Katie. It is longer than any other ship to visit Portland before.

The ship is 1,200 feet long. It can carry up to 12,400 containers. The previous record was a ship called Navios Unite. It was 1,100 feet long and came to Portland last year.

The MSC Katie started its journey from Astoria on Wednesday morning. It arrived at Terminal 6 that evening. Other ships were bigger, but they were empty. The MSC Katie is the biggest full ship to visit Portland. While at the port, the ship will unload and load about 970 containers.

Terminal 6 is the Port of Portland's main terminal for container shipments. Container shipments at Terminal 6 stopped in 2016. There was a disagreement between the workers and the company. But they started again a few years later.
