Eugene says 'no' to gas stoves

(FEBRUARY 10, 2023) Eugene is a city in Oregon. It has a new law. New homes cannot have natural gas stoves.

Some leaders worry about natural gas. It is a fossil fuel like oil. Burning it makes pollution. That is not healthy and hurts the environment.

Other people disagree. They want to have a choice. They want people to vote on the law.

Eugene is the first Oregon city with this law. However, 100 cities around the country have this law. It includes other fossil fuels. Fuel oil is one example. People burn fuel oil for heat.
