Eastern Oregon has one of the largest wind farms in the world

(JANUARY 13, 2023) Shepherd's Flat Wind Farm is a large wind farm in Eastern Oregon. In fact, it is one of the largest land-based wind farms in the world. It has 338 wind turbines that make enough electricity for about 220,000 homes.

Wind turbines are enormous machines that use the wind to make electricity. They have large blades that spin around when the wind blows. The turbines have a diameter of 330 feet. This movement makes electricity that can be used in homes and businesses. Wind energy is good for the environment because it does not make pollution like fossil fuels do. (Fossil fuels are energy sources such as oil and gas.)

Shepherd's Flat Wind Farm is located near the town of Arlington in Eastern Oregon. The farm was built in 2012 and has been making electricity for the people who live there ever since. Building wind farms like this also creates jobs in the local area, this means people can have work and make money. Some estimate that the economic benefit for Oregon is about $16 million annually.

Overall, Shepherd's Flat Wind Farm is very important because it helps make clean electricity for the people who live in Eastern Oregon and creates jobs. Wind energy is a good choice for the environment and will help keep the air clean for future generations.
