Large landslide closes U.S. Highway 101 near Port Orford

(JANUARY 13, 2023) Earlier this week, there was a large landslide on the Oregon Coast. It closed U.S. Highway 101 near south of Port Orford. About 200 yards of highway fell 15 feet, and it slid 12 feet west.

The Oregon Department of Transportation hopes to open a part of the road soon. However, it might take a little longer because of the weather. There's going to be more rain, and that might make it harder for the people working on the road.

Starting tomorrow, one lane of the road will be open again, so cars can drive on it. But people will have to be patient and drive slowly because the road is not completely fixed yet. And if it rains too much, the people working on the road might have to close it again.
