Oregon's new governor wants to solve the problem of homelessness

(January 13, 2023) Oregon has a new governor. Her name is Tina Kotek. She is the 39th governor of Oregon. She signs three new orders on her first day at work:

• First, she wants companies to build more new houses. She thinks this will help fix the problem of homelessness.

• Second, she announces a state of emergency. Now the government has power to do more to help homeless people.

• Third, she tells the state to make homelessness a priority. That means it will be more important than other things.
