What's the big idea of the PDX Free Little Art Gallery?

(OCTOBER 21, 2022) Many people know about "little free libraries" in neighborhoods all around the city. They are usually little bookcases near a sidewalk. The bookcases have doors. Inside are free books. People take a book. Or they leave a book to share with someone else.

Now Portland has a free little art gallery. Visitors can take the tiny art from the gallery for free. Or they can leave their own tiny art to share with someone else. Some visitors just like to look at the art because there is something different every time they visit.

In addition to tiny pieces of art, there are also tiny people looking at the art inside the box. These little figures were toys. The artist repaints them and places them in the tiny art gallery.

“It’s really for public joy,” says the artist who owns the little gallery. “I hope that people walk by, they see it, they stop, they enjoy a little dose of art in their everyday life.”

The PDX Free Little Art Gallery is similar to one in Seattle. The video below tells more about that.
