Portland has a (live) bug museum

(OCTOBER 14, 2022) Portland has a bug museum. The bugs are alive. And you can touch them, too!

Its name is the Portland Insectarium. ("Insect" is another word for bug.) Its address is 7836 SE 13th Avenue.

Some of the bugs in the museum are:

      • cockroaches

      • beetles

      • mantises

      • tarantula

      • mealworms

      • isopods

      • scorpions

      • spiders

The owner is Jessica Szabo. She wants to teach you about bugs. She says they are important to our environment.

"If you treat them gently and respectfully, they will not attack you," says Jessica. For example, you don't grab a cockroach. But you can touch it with one finger.

Jessica thinks this is a good lesson for kids. They learn about kindness. They learn how to interact with others.

A visit to the museum costs $8 for adults and $5 for kids. On Thursdays, everyone pays $5. It is open Thursdays - Sundays from 12-6pm.
