Oregon robot sets world record for running on two legs

(SEPTMBER 30, 2022) Robots are fun. Now robots are fast, too.

Scientists at Oregon State University invented a robot. Its name is Cassie. It set a world record.

Cassie ran 100 meters in 24.73 seconds. And it didn't fall! Cassie is now the fastest robot with two legs. (The record for a human is 9.58 seconds.)

The robot has knees. The knees bend like an ostrich. But it has no cameras.

Stopping and starting were difficult. Cassie trained for one year. That means scientists tried different things. They wanted to increase its speed. The result was running like a person.
