Diamond Craters are a very unusual part of Oregon's high desert

(SEPTEMBER 23, 2022) You probably heard about Crater Lake. But have you heard about Diamond Craters? It's very unusual land in Oregon's high desert country near Burns.

A crater is a big hole in the ground. And there are many in this area. Volcanoes made them 25,000 years ago.

Lava rock covers the whole area. The craters are an "outstanding natural area". The government now protects it.

Visitors must be careful. This area has few hard roads. There is no water or bathrooms. There is no cell phone service.

The area is interesting to visit because it is very uncommon.
