Oregon still has more jobs than workers

(AUGUST 5, 2022) Oregon has more jobs than workers. Last spring, Oregon had more than 106,000 available jobs. However only 78,000 people were looking for work.

This is happening more and more in Oregon. It's getting worse and worse. Employers cannot find workers. The government says this is unusual.

Most available jobs are in hospitality. Those include bartenders, food servers, and hotel cleaners. Other available jobs are in health care. This includes nurses.

Why are there so many available jobs? Some businesses closed during the pandemic. Their workers found other jobs. So the workers didn't return.

Other people wanted to change jobs. Some moved. Some wanted to do something new. And some people wanted to make more money.

Some people retired. That means they stopped working because they are old.
