Hillsboro has a "Library of Things"
(AUGUST 5, 2020) Libraries usually lend books. They often have newspapers and magazines. Some libraries provide internet, too. In Hillsboro, library users can find those things -- and much more.
The service is called the "Library of Things." Users can borrow unusual items from musical instruments to baking pans. The library's website says, "the collection supports lifelong learning and creativity by providing the physical tools necessary to explore new areas of interest and learn new skills."
Users can borrow:
craft-making things, such as sewing machines and knitting machines
equipment for the kitchen, such as cake decorating kits or pasta machines
games of all kinds, such as board games, outdoor activities, and toys for young children
party items, such as a bubble machine, karoake machine, and popcorn machine
things for the home, such as a power washer and mobile hotspots for internet access
musical instruments, such as a violin or keyboard
fun things, such as a metal detector, sports equipment, and an astronomy kit
science equipment, such as microscopes and calculators
The "Library of Things" has more than 1,200 items including 600 board games. Users can borrow items for one week. Users can keep some items longer. Users need a library card to borrow these things. Users can search the list of things here: https://www.hillsboro-oregon.gov/our-city/departments/library/borrow/library-of-things
However, you might want to watch the YouTube channel instead. There are many funny videos showing many items in the Library of Things: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcJy2k9jTPdIAw8e-g64RC5h53702G2F_
