Oregon is the birthplace of the corn dog

(JULY 22, 2022) Corn dogs are a popular food. You see them at festivals. You see them at fairs. You see them everywhere. But where did they begin? At Rockaway Beach in Oregon.

The corn dog was invented in 1939. George Boyington owned a hot dog stand. He had too many buns. The bread was going bad. He wanted something to cook faster.

So he put a hot dog on a stick. He covered the hot dog with corn bread mix. He put it in hot oil to cook. He called it a Pronto Pup.

Now corn dogs are famous. They are everywhere. For example, the Minnesota State Fair sells more than 100,000 each year.

A store in Rockaway Beach is still open, too. And now it has more than food. It has a Pronto Pup game to ride like a bull.
