(JULY 8, 2022) Oregon has many interesting places to visit. There are also many interesting events. Powerland Heritage Park has both.
Powerland Heritage Park is in Brooks, which is a small town near Salem. The park is a community of 16 different museums. They all focus on antique equipment, vehicles, and steam-powered machinery. A steam engine uses steam from boiling water to make it move. The steam moves parts of the engine. This movement makes the equipment work, and it can also make electricity.
The park also includes:
a steam-powered sawmill (a sawmill makes wood from trees)
an old farmhouse (a farmhouse is a house on a farm)
a blacksmith shop (a blacksmith makes things from iron, such as shoes for horses)
a country store (a country store usually sells a wide variety of things, from food to clothing to tools)
a prairie rose garden (a prairie is flat, open land; flowers here are different than in forests or near rivers)
One of the many events is "The Great Oregon Steam-Up" from July 30 through August 7, 2022. Visitors can see original, historical equipment in operation. The antique machines include farm equipment, engines, firefighting equipment, trucks and cars, logging equipment, a flour mill, and a sawmill. Visitors can also ride a trolley and a miniature railroad.
A parade takes place each day at 1:30 pm. It includes antique tractors, trucks, and automobiles. The steam-powered sawmill operates four times a day. The trolley travels around the park all four days of the show. There will be other activities, too, such as live music, a swap meet and flea market, and food to purchase. All museums will be open.
Tickets for the special event are $15 per person. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
Regular visiting hours are Wednesdays-Sundays, 9 am - 4pm, April to September. Admission for adults is $6 on non-event days. Children 12 and under are free on non-event days.
