(MAY 20, 2022) Oregon has new rules for workers. The rules are very strong. They keep workers safe during high heat and smoke.
Rules about heat begin June 15. They start at 80 degrees. Employers must provide:
shade
cool water
more rest breaks
heat illness training
Rules about smoke begin July 1. They start when the Air Quality Index is 101. Employers must provide:
N95 face masks
a different place to work
a different time to work
clean air
Many people like the new rules. They think everyone will stay safe and healthy. However, some small businesses worry. They don't know if they can afford these changes.
