(MAY 13, 2022) A new survey counted homeless people in Multnomah County. The number has increased since 2019. There are at least 1,200 more homeless people now.
Multnomah County counted 5,228 homeless people on January 26, 2022. In 2019, the number was 4,015. Washington County counted 808. Clackamas County counted 597.
The survey was difficult. COVID was a problem. Sick workers stayed home. Sick people were not counted. Some shelters were closed.
The survey was in many languages. However, some people did not want to answer the questions. So the numbers are only estimates. (An estimate is a smart guess.)
