Gas prices are going up

(MARCH 18, 2022) Gas prices are going up. The national average price was $4.25 per gallon last week. That is a new record.

The average price in Portland was $4.76. The average price in Oregon was $4.72. That is almost 54% more than last year.

Why is gas more expensive now? Gas comes from oil. Oil comes from Russia. Russia is at war with Ukraine. Many countries don't like the war. So they make it difficult for Russia to sell oil.

The US uses little Russian oil. However, war means the global market changes a lot. And it changes fast. Buyers and sellers worry. So they raise prices. They don't want to lose money.
