Bridges and tunnels might help animals cross highways safely

(FEBRUARY 25, 2022) Big highways are a problem for animals. They are dangerous. Drivers sometimes hit animals on the road. Highways also separate animals from food and shelter.

Oregon wants to help animals cross highways safely. The state is looking at I-5 in Southern Oregon. The state is thinking about building bridges or tunnels.

The state is looking at seven places. They are between the city of Ashland and the state's border with California. The project is expensive. It might cost $7 million.

The project wants to save lives: human and animal.
