How much does it cost to die in Oregon?

(JANUARY 21, 2022) Living in Oregon can be expensive. Dying in Oregon can cost a lot of money too. Portland Monthly is a magazine. It lists the costs in an article.

An average funeral costs around $8,000. About half of that cost is the burial plot. A burial plot is space in a cemetery. The average cost of a burial plot in Oregon is $4,141.

Some people choose cremation. The body is burned. Only ashes remain. The average cost of cremation is $5,100. An urn (container) for the ashes costs $199.

The family often shares information about the dead person's life. This is an obituary. Some people share the obituary in a newspaper. The price to print an obituary in The Oregonian newspaper is $229. The obituary can have 30 words and a picture, or 120 words and no picture.

Some people choose to donate their body. Doctors give some parts to people who need them to live. Scientists use the body to research or teach medicine. This costs nothing.
