(NOVEMBER 21, 2021) Oregon has many kinds of bridges. One kind of bridge has a roof. It is called a covered bridge.
A covered bridge is usually made of wood. The roof protects the wood. It also makes the bridge stronger.
Covered bridges were very popular in the 1800s. Iron and steel bridges replaced many covered bridges. Oregon has only about 50 covered bridges today.
The Goodpasture Bridge is in Lane County. It crosses the McKenzie River near the town of Vida. The Goodpasture Bridge was built in 1938. It has unusual windows. There are stairs to the river. It is 165 feet long. That means it is the longest covered bridge in Oregon that people still use.
