Oregon workers often have multiple jobs

(OCTOBER 29, 2021) The state of Oregon did research. It learned something surprising. Moonlighting is common here.

"Moonlighting" means working more than one job. This happens more in Oregon than other states.

102,000 Oregonians worked multiple jobs in 2020. That is about 5% of all workers.

Why do people have more than one job?

  • 38.1% say they want extra money.

  • 25.6% say they need to pay bills.

  • 17.6% say they enjoy the work.

But things change fast. Research says most second jobs are temporary. Workers often return to only one job in a short time.
