Multnomah County warns: Keep dogs out of Willamette River

(AUGUST 8, 2021) People like to take their dogs to the river. Some dogs play in the water. Some dogs drink the water. But Multnomah County has a warning. People should keep pets out of the Willamette River.

Why? There are toxic (poisonous) chemicals from algae. Algae is a type of plant in slow, warm water. The state found a lot of the toxic chemical in the water.

This chemical is not a problem for humans. However, it can kill dogs if the dogs drink it.
