Unusual Oregon rest areas make travel more interesting

(JULY 24, 2021) Travelers often focus on where they are going. But there is a saying: "It's about the journey, not the destination." And if you are traveling in Oregon, there are a number of interesting rest areas to stop along the way that will make your trip all the more interesting.

If you are traveling toward Bend along Highway 97, you should stop at the Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewpoint in Terrebonne. Surprisingly, cliffs drop 300 feet down into the Crooked River.

On Highway 101 along the coast, you should visit the Tillamook River Rest Area. It has lots of grass, trees, and trails. It's a nice place to relax if you have been in the car for a long time.

Along Interstate 84 in Eastern Oregon is an historical place near Pendleton. It's called Deadman Pass Rest Area. Its location is on the famous Oregon Trail that people followed when they moved west to Oregon in the 1800s. This was one of the most dangerous places on the Oregon Trail, and that's why it has this name.
