Unusual heat wave kills almost 100 people in Oregon

(JULY 3, 2021) The weather in Oregon was hot last week. The heat lasted several days. People call this a "heat wave."

The temperature on Monday, June 28 was 116 degrees. That is higher than usual. It was the highest temperature in history.

Hot weather is dangerous. Almost 100 people died in Oregon. Most of them were already sick. The heat made their conditions worse. They often died in homes without fans or air conditioning.
