Hot weather brings burn ban to Multnomah County

(JULY 24, 2020) When people think of Portland, they usually think of cold and wet weather. However, summers in Portland are usually warm, sunny and dry. So far, this summer has been mild, but cooler than normal.

The weather changes this week. The National Weather Services has issued a heat advisory. The warning is for not only Portland, but also the Willamette Valley and other parts of western Oregon. "It will be hot Sunday and Monday," they say. The high temperature will be 101 degrees on Sunday. On Monday, it will be 100 degrees. Tuesday and Wednesday will stay in the 90s. Then the high temperatures cool off to the 80s for the beginning of August.

This weather means that Multnomah County issued a burn ban until further notice. A ban is a restriction. It means you can't do something. So a burn ban means people can't have fires. "Until further notice" means it starts today, but they don't know yet when it will end. According to The Oregonian newspaper, the ban includes open fires such as campfires, backyard fires, and burning yard debris.
