Steel Bridge closes for four weeks in August

(JULY 10, 2020) Portland has many bridges. One bridge is the Steel Bridge. It is very busy. It is also 108 years old.

The bridge has two decks. Decks are floors. The bottom deck is for trains, bikes, and pedestrians. Pedestrians are people who walk. The top deck is for cars, buses, and MAX trains.

The bridge needs repairs. The top deck is closed from August 2 to August 29. People on trains take a bus. Buses use a different bridge. This causes many delays.

The lower deck is open for bikes and pedestrians.

The repairs cost $17 million.
