(MAY 1, 2020) The Portland Rose Festival is a large celebration every June. It is more than 100 years old. And it always has a big parade with floats, bands, and community groups.
However, this year will be different. There will be no big parade. People cannot gather in large groups yet because of the coronovirus and COVID-19. So the organization has a new event called the Porch Parade. This event will celebrate community spirit and resilience. The festival hopes the event will inspire hope.
What is a Porch Parade? The festival is asking people to decorate porches. The festival will share a map online. People can use the map to find the decorated porches around the city. People can view the decorated porches from a safe distance between May 23 and May 30. If someone doesn't have a porch, they can decorate a window, sidewalk, or lawn.
The event is free. If you want to decorate your porch, you should first register on the festival website. All the details are online at: paradinginplace.com.
