Some Oregon alcohol companies are now making hand sanitizer

(APRIL 3, 2020) Hood River Distillers is a company in Hood River that usually makes alcohol products. It makes wine, brandy, vodka, gin and other types of beverages. Now the company is making hand sanitizer to send to first responders and medical facilities. Hood River Distillers has already produced more than 5,000 gallons.

Hand sanitizer is an important product. It is in high demand by both workers and people at home. Many stores have sold all of their supplies. Companies that make alcohol can make sanitizer easily because alcohol is a major ingredient in sanitizer. Alcohol can kill germs such as the coronavirus.

The website of Hood River Distillers says, "Over the next several weeks, we will be producing an additional 7,000 gallons. And we are proud to be working with the Oregon Health Authority to distribute this hand sanitizer throughout Oregon to those on the front lines of the healthcare and food service industries. As long as there is a need and access to materials, we will continue to produce this critical product to help protect our communities from the spread of COVID-19."

Other companies, such as Shine Distillery on Grill and Rogue Ales and Spirits, are doing similar work.
