More people in Oregon get sick from the coronavirus

(MARCH 7, 2020) The coronavirus makes people sick. It is like the flu. It is a contagious disease.

The coronavirus started in China. Now it is in many places around the world. It is in Oregon, too.

Seven people in Oregon have the disease. Two are in Jackson County. One is in Klamath County. Three are in Washington County. One is near Pendleton.

Some of these people became sick after traveling internationally. Some of these people became sick after they were near another sick person.

The coronavirus is dangerous for older people and people with other diseases. However, most people with coronavirus have only mild symptoms. No one in Oregon has died.

The state tests people who are very sick. They want to quarantine them. That means they stay away from other people until they feel better.
